F&M to Host International Piano Fest

For more than a decade, the Lancaster International Piano Festival (LIPF) has attracted prominent musicians from 30 countries to the Red Rose City for a week of recitals, master classes and competitions. Now, that top-notch talent has found a home at Franklin & Marshall College. The College will host LIPF July 14-23 at the Barshinger Center for Musical Arts. The event features seven concerts open to the public, with ticket prices starting at $5 for students. All master class events are free. See the complete schedule. “F&M truly brings the Lancaster International Piano Festival into downtown Lancaster, aligning closely with our mission of bringing world-class music to the city,” said Lillian Noble-Kneiss, LIPF executive director. Music students, guest artists and faculty from around the world will gather on campus to enjoy 10 days of classes, one-on-one teaching, educational workshops, collaboration, competition, concerts and performances of piano soloists and chamber music. “Seeing the amazing talent and dedication of our students from all over the world is always a thrill,” said Dr. Bob Falk '67, LIPF board president and CEO. The festival begins Friday evening with Russian-American concert pianist Alexander Kobrin performing Mozart, Schubert and Schumann signatures. Piano duo Psychopomp Ensemble will wind down festivities July 21 with an eclectic mix of music-synthesizing improvisation, recompositions and original works. “I think our participants will be able to get the most out of being here in Lancaster through our new home at F&M,” Noble-Kneiss said.
